When it comes to dating apps, it's all about finding the best dating app conversation starter. Unlike meeting in real life, you can't really win someone over with your personality until you can find the right words to pique their interest and lure them in for more. In order to do that, you need an initial line that's going to deliver.
'What I advise my clients to do is to follow the formula of 'Comment + Question',' certified dating coach and host of the Dates and Mates Podcast, Damona Hoffman, tells Bustle. 'Comment on something you see in their profile that intrigues you then ask a question that requires more than a yes/no response. While you can have some luck with the Master of None 'I'm going to Whole Foods, can I pick something up for you?' cut and paste style messages, I have a higher response rate with individualized messages. It doesn't have to be a novel, just honestly respond to the thing that made you swipe right.'
While no one is saying you can't try to initiate a chat on dating apps starting with a friendly 'hey,' creativity, especially in the online world, goes a long way. Here are 21 dating app conversation starters that experts swear by.
Hoffman suggests if someone's profile made you laugh, tell them! Everyone appreciates a compliment.
Granted, this isn't going to work if there isn't a tiger being pet in any of their photos, but you can see the point that Rubin is making: actually look at their photos, then formulating a conversation starter related to one of those photos.
'If [their] profile is empty and you don’t have a lot to work with, go for some fun random questions that help you get to know each other fast,' Claudia Cox, founder of Text Weapon, tells Bustle.
'Make it about them,' Cox says. 'Comment on something specific from [their] profile that you are interested in and can hold a conversation about.'
All you need is one thing in common to get a conversation rolling. A shared sport, hobby, or even working in the same field is a great start.
'Gauge their sense of humor by taking a photo of something from their profile and caption it with your style of humor and ask if they think it’s funny,' Clarissa Silva, behavioral scientist, relationship coach and creator of Your Happiness Hypothesis Method, tells Bustle.
If you doctor one of their photos for fun, you can let your sense of humor lead the conversation.

Ratings and Reviews
My favorite dating app by far - but not quite perfect yet!
Music taste is extremely important to me, so I'm so glad this app exists. I really enjoy it, but there are a few bugs here and there that prevent the five star rating. For some reason, when I try to set the song that plays on my profile, nothing comes up when I search, so I have to choose between 20 or so songs randomly generated based on my favorite artists, and I have to keep opening and closing the screen until I see a song I like. Please fix the search bar. Also, I'd like to be able to manually set the order in which each artist appears on my profile, as some are more important to me than others. Also I should be able to move my photos around and switch their order. Right now you can only push one to the front. Also, the ability to favorite certain profiles for future reference would be nice. Otherwise, this is an amazing app! Thanks!

Great app, but could use some tweaks
First, I love this app and the concept around it. Music is something that (I hope) most people connect to, and connecting others through it whether you're looking to date or not is genius. Some cons are that sometimes to choose a song to become your 'profile song' via the actual site, but then it doesn't show on your mobile app profile (which is annoying). Someone sent me a song, but I couldn't reply until I bought a subscription which is also limiting.
Other than that it's a solid app and I look forward to continuing to use it!
One’s musical tastes tells you a lot about a person
Welcome to the only app that values tastes above income or looks. And a great concept, I love it! Honestly I think the people on here (men) are the realest I’ve seen on any dating app. Maybe it’s because people don’t mess around when it comes to their music, I don’t. I’ve only been on taste buds for a little bit but I think it’s easy to use, every musical artist I’ve searched is on there. Anyone can like or comment on your photos whether you like them or not, and the profile format is interesting and fun (you can choose from cute pre-made captions). Comments are in place of messages, which I like, and are directed toward a photo you post making small talk easier to avoid (hate small talk). Also I tend to get along best with artists/musicians & the like so this seems promising.
